nB scientific instrumentation for Magnetic Hyperthermia

About us

nB nanoScale Biomagnetics is a technology based company established in 2008 with the objective of giving an answer to the instrumentation needs of Magnetic Hyperthermia (MHT) research.

The DM100 Series is the first and only one technological solution that can guarantee the highest standards on the quality of measurements that scientific research requires in the field of induction heating of nanostructured materials.

The DM100 Series is also the unique integral, immediate and reliable answer to the instrumentation needs of MHT through all its stages: from magnetic characterization to clinical application.

Mission

Our daily work is guided by the following objectives:

  • Become the technological gold standard of instrumentation for MHT and induction heating applications of nanostructured systems.
  • Establish nB nanoScale Biomagnetics as a guarantee of the highest reliability and quality in the area of scientific and biomedical instrumentation providing integral solutions in measurement, automation and process control.
  • Develop strategic alliances that bring the maximum added value to our customers.

History

The originate idea of nB comes from the Magnetic Hyperthermia Group (MHG) of the Institute of Nanoscience of Aragón (Spain). This group has been extensively working on the biomedical applications of nanostructured materials since its formation in 2005.

When the group started its activity, they encountered a major obstacle to achieve their objectives: the lack of specific MHT instrumentation in the market. The group then embraced the idea of producing themselves the required technology, a process that carried many risks and implied many resources invested on it. The results worthed it: In 2006, the first prototypes were already working.

The outcome was such a success that the group decided on capitalizing the invested efforts and resources and market the solution. This is how nB was born as an Spin-off company coming from the University of Zaragoza.

During the last months of 2007, the commercial strategy began to take shape. The first draft of the business plan was submitted to the 16th edition of the IDEA contest, were it got the second position being prized as first finalist. During 2008, the business project is consolidated with the support of different national and regional organizations. This sets the ground floor for the search of private funding. On the scientific part of the project, the MHG received a special mention award at the 2008 edition of 3M Foundation prizes to innovation.

On 2009, the investment group Inveready Seed Capital supported nB project becoming capitalist partner. On 2010, nB launches successfully the DM100 Series, giving for the first time an integral and specific answer to researches working on induction heating of nanostructured materials and, more specifically, on MHT.

Currently, nB is working on new modular solutions that can be integrated into the DM100 Series as well as on other scientific and biomedical instrumentation areas that can expand company´s horizon.

The team

Team

nB has a team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals, experts in the development of instrumentation technologies. nB counts with the contribution and expertise of researchers in the field of nanotechnology and hyperthermia.

The promoters

The promoting group is formed by the members of the INA that were involved in the project since its very beginning.

Ricardo M. Ibarra García. Scientific Consultant and Head of the Institutional Relations Area

Ricardo is a Doctor of Physics, Professor of the University of Zaragoza, Director of the Nanosciences Institute of Aragón (INA), Director of the Advanced Microscopy Lab (LMA) and Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Cracow, in Poland. He has been deeply involved in HTM research from his position as Director of the INA.

Gerardo F. Goya. Scientific and R&D Consultant

Gerardo Goya is a Doctor of Physics, Professor of the University of Sao Paulo, Brasil, and the Leader of the Magnetic Hyperthermia Group of INA. He has been the head of the scientific part of the project and his input for the design conceptualization of the DM100 Series has been a key element.

Nicolás Cassinelli. Managing Director

In 2006, Engineer Nicolás Cassinelli joined the hyperthermia group developing the technology and managing the design and prototyping process of The DM100 Series. His role nowadays goes beyond the R&D management onto general management responsibilities of the company.
